Because of our background we know the importance of keeping you in the activities you love and we find ways to modify your training so you can stay in your sport throughout the rehab process.

It's been awesome to work with Matt after two separate knee injuries from soccer. Beyond general mobility, Matt was helpful and methodical in going back to full sport, for landing/explosiveness/sport-specific strength. I knew I could bring him any specific challenge and we'd work through it. He definitely knows his stuff. I'm someone who wants to know "why?" recursively for any athletic advice - so I learned a lot since Matt understands the data behind various methods (or the reasoning/history behind them, as there isn't always data). Highly recommend!

I came to SFPTP to work on chronic ankle instability and had a great experience improving my ankle strength and stability with Matt. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and has a good process in place. He saw where I was at and ramped up the exercise difficulty when he felt it was appropriate. I was struggling to go for short walks without discomfort and improved to be able to go hiking and running again.

I had a great experience with Matt for a shoulder injury. He was clearly extremely up-to-date with the most evidence-based techniques and helped me identify the root cause of my injury. He was very personable and addressed all of my needs. I appreciated that I received a personalized plan that got me back up to speed quickly.

Matt is the first physical therapist I have visited. I finally decided to see him for PT after years of shoulder and hip pain/tightness and I'm very grateful I did. He identified the root causes of my issues and he put together for me a personalized training plan for improving. I am an active tennis player and I appreciated how he focused our sessions on my goal of what will reduce pain and help me improve for tennis. We did my PT sessions in The Yard gym in Lower Pac Heights and had access to all the gym equipment there if needed for my exercises. I will be recommending Matt to my friends if they are looking for a friendly, very knowledgeable, sports-focused PT.

I saw Matt for lower back pain. He was the 4th Physical Therapist I saw about the pain, and the only one who I felt really listened to me, who really took the time to understand what I was experiencing, and who worked with me to figure out what was going on. The other therapists I saw, all of whom are certified PTs with their Doctorate in Physical Therapy, were unable to help me. The first 2 told me that there was nothing they could do for me and that I’d have to learn to live with limited mobility. The 3rd found other issues with me, but after 6 visits … and me religiously doing my homework exercises … I still wasn’t feeling any improvement. Matt’s approach was different from the others in that he took a lot of time to listen to me, ask me questions, look at / watch me move, test my mobility, and try different things to see if anything had any impact. I noticed improvements (reduced pain, increased mobility) within a couple of weeks of working with Matt. The other thing I loved about working with Matt was his willingness to answer questions between our appointments. If I wanted to give feedback on my home exercises, or ask questions to clarify what I should / shouldn’t the doing, Matt would always get back to me with the answer / information. It really helped me make progress between sessions. The facilities where Matt and I worked together (The Yard in SF and Mill Valley) were great! Very clean, organized, easy to find, and very friendly people. I also really appreciated having 2 locations to pick from 0 it made scheduling so much easier for me. So if you’re in pain, and are wondering whether to see Matt about it, stop thinking and just do it. He’ll fix you right up!

I experienced minor lower back issues while running and wanted to address them early on, as I am training for a marathon this fall. After contacting Matt, I was able to schedule an appointment within a couple of days. I felt that I gained maximum benefit from our sessions, and within a few weeks of following the exercises he prescribed, I was feeling much better. I highly recommend Matt for any issues you might be facing!

I am so glad I decided to work with Matt! As a physician myself, and long time PT veteran, I already had a lot of tools at my disposal to manage my chronic back issues. However, I had had enough of the frequent flare ups and wanted to take it to the next level - build back my strength, endurance, and confidence. Matt was the perfect person to help. He put together a program to help me transition from just managing my pain and symptoms, to getting back to activities that I hadn't been able to do in years. I was impressed with not only his knowledge and experience, but also the vast catalogue of exercises he was able to adapt for whatever my workout situation (home, gym, travel, etc). My pain and quality of life have improved dramatically after just a few months. I strongly recommend Matt over just signing up at a PT place - the personal attention, teaching, and flexibility he offers cannot be beat.

Matt got me pain free and back to running even faster than I expected! He is very hands-on and answered all my questions - it's clear he knows his stuff and explains it well. I could also tell he genuinely wanted to get me back to full health as quickly as possible, not upsell me on services I didn't need. If you're an athlete wanting to get back to your sport, I highly recommend Matt!

I have been working with Matt since July of 2023 and can say with confidence that he is one of the top physical therapists in San Francisco and Mill Valley. His approach is very professional, attentive and flexible to patient needs, and backed by science. I've sent several referrals his way, knowing full well that they are in safe hands; I can't recommend him enough

I had a great experience at SFPTP - did the runners injury assessment with Matt and it was everything I had hoped for! I was training for a marathon and had pain in my posterior tib & Achilles. Matt did an assessment of basic strength and range of motion on both my legs/feet, and then analyzed my running gait. He gave great feedback on my cadence, stride, and impact that was easily applicable to my running form. He also explained the reasoning behind all of his advice which really helped a lot. It was clear that he cared a lot. Already seeing results a couple days after (just did a 12 miler that felt a lot better than usual)! Would highly recommend to anyone on the fence about spending some money to get an assessment - 100% worth it if you are serious about your running. Keep up the great work Matt!
